A little studio update.

I don't think I will ever be finished setting up my studio. Well that probably goes for everything in my house and life. It's all about exploring new things or just changing it up a bit. With the studio I still have some things I want to set up a little better or organize some more. It's so hard to know how I want things until I use it for a while. As I moved in, their were some things that I knew how I wanted them displayed or put away but some things just came up as I needed them and they haven't found there best place yet. So it's a work in progress which just like me.
This week the Tin Man helped me with a few little projects.
We made this large bulletin board for my office corner. It's about 3.5 feet by 6 feet. I plan to use it as a business and inspirational board. It seems very plain right now so I'm thinking of putting some kind of boarder on with lace but I know once I start pinning thing up it will look better.
And then he put this display shelf up for me. I like the idea of having a shelf so it's easy to change things up when the urge strikes me. I hate to commit to just a few holes in the wall for hanging thing and then having to find similar sized things when I want to make a change to it.

So that's my small studio update for now. So are you a hang it and leave it kinda person or do you like to change things up regularly?

Welcome to my new studio...

I've finally officially moved into the new studio. Although I still have more things to organize and move into the studio I had my Open House last weekend and have been creating in my new space for a few weeks. It's so exciting and inspiring to be in this space. The Tin man has been helping a lot getting it set up, hanging things on the wall and not even questioning me when I say I want boxes hung on the wall! I know I'm lucky to have him and appreciate him very much.

So come in and I'll give you a little tour of how things are looking so far.

Here is my gears table finally finished. It's a little hard to tell but this is a large table. It's 4'x8'. I had some struggles getting this done. It actually took 2 tries as the first time things just weren't going as planned. But as usual when these things happen the end result turns out much better than originally planned.
I wanted somewhere to store jars and things that wasn't too deep so these shelves are old boxes and a drawer on the top. I haven't decided yet what's going on the shutters, we just decided they would look good there.
A quite warm spot in the sun to take a break, have a tea and read a good book.
 My jewelry display corner.
The jewelry creating corner. It still need some major organization here. I haven't figured out the best way to store my tools for easy access.
This is where I'll be teaching workshops. The shelves haven't been organized yet but everything in time.
This is my purge table of things for sale. Do you need anything? Come on over and have a look!

I hope you enjoyed the tour. I'd love to hear your thought on the new studio and any suggestions for more organizing. One can never be too organized!.

Happy Creating

Studio Open House

It's time! It's time!
Dragonfly Dreamers Open House
Sat. Sept. 22, 2012
1:00pm-4:00pm
3557 Munster Rd.

Yes I'm finally ready to reveal my new studio or at least I will be by Saturday. During the Open House you can do a make and take and enter your name in a draw for a chance to win one of three prizes. All my workshop pieces will be on display for sign up. You can view more details about the workshops here. While moving the studio upstairs I came across lots of things that I don't really need any more so I'll be having a large sale table as well.

The above photo is a little corner by the window where you can sit and have a tea or coffee while you take in the whole studio view.
Here are the lights that I finally decided on and had installed. They aren't the prettiest put I just love the light that fills the room when they're on.

And here is a sneak peek at my newly painted work table. It seems to me each time I have some large move, I get an urge to paint a piece of furniture, usually at the last moment. Well I actually started this table a few months ago but things didn't go as planned, as a few of you may have seen if you follow me on facebook, so I got back at it last week and this time it worked out and I'm very pleased with it.

I hope these few peeks have enticed you to come and see my new studio on Saturday. I'll have the tea and coffee waiting for you!

Hope to see you soon.

Studio jewelry display

I feel like I've fallen behind in my updates of the studio move but really it's more like I'm just behind in the actual moving of the studio. I am working on it and it's coming along slowly but surely. So I don't have too much to share of the whole studio so I thought I'd show you my jewelry display in the studio. It's not quit finished but then it probably never really will be. I do like to change and tweak things regularly. Check out my inspiration on my Pinterest board  here.

I've had this traveling suitcase for a few years and was never very pleased with how I displayed it in the house so into the studio it went. I wasn't sure I was going to use it for jewelry at first but I'm glad I did.

I made a few display boards to use both in my studio display and at shows. I use to use just black but have been trying some new ideas like dictionary paper, decorative scrapbook papers and old photo mats.
This one is made with old dictionary pages. It got a bit tall but it works at shows when I have lots on the table and it can stand a little behind something else. I'm thinking of antiquing the edges.
This board is made with some decorative scrapbooking pages.
Here is another decorative scrapbooking pages board. I didn't want to add too many colours to the display so I stuck with greens and blue greens. I'm thinking these might look good with a little antiquing around the edges as well.
I've had a box of these antique photo mats in my basement a while and never really knew what I was going to do with them. I've used a few in the show displays this year and it seems to work.

So that's my jewelry display in the studio so far. I'd love to hear what you think. Any suggestions are most welcome. Would you antique the edges of my boards? Any ideas for other things I can do with old photo mats?

Happy creating!

Studio renovation update.

Well I know that this isn't much of an update but this is as far as we've gotten right now and I thought a few of you might be wondering how it's going. I'm still waiting for the lights before I move my table and most of my stuff up. I was having a hard time picturing how much room my table was going to take up so that's what the paper on the floor is. The pieces in the middle are actually one large table and the one at the side is a long one that I store things on that I can use there or that I use often. I wasn't sure how much room I would have on the left wall once I got the table and chairs in. I'd like some kind of shelves there but want to make sure it's still easy to get around when I have classes. Right now I have a table set up to play around with my display for Glamour in the Glebe this weekend.
I meant to take a picture and show you when I'm done but some how I just needed to blog now. So here it is not quite finished. I think I'm going to make a tall board to go on the empty easel. And I was trying to think of something to put on the mirror to soften it up. I was also thinking of making some kind of name banner for the front of the table but I'm pretty sure that's not going to happen in time for this show. Oh well you can't have everything. Well what do you think? Any suggestions?

If you're in the Ottawa area this is going to be a fun show. It's at the Glebe Community Center. Friday night it's open from 6:30pm-9:30pm, admission is $6 and includes a fashion show. Saturday hours are from 10:00am-4pm with free admission. It's an all jewelry show, so come out with you girlfriends to see all the jewelry you can imagine in one place!
