It's certainly been a different kind of year and we've all had to make changes and adjustment throughout it. I wasn't able to have my annual Open Studio this year so instead I've opened up the studio for some personal shopping by appointment. I haven't done any shows this year but I have still been creating so there is lots to choose from. I've also had a few new supply orders come in so the supply shop is stocked full of creative goodies. 

If you'd like to come by to do some shopping just give me a call or e-mail to make an appointment. All Covid protocols are in place and I ask that you wear a mask while here. If you can't make it here or are not comfortable coming in I am doing porch pick up and some local deliveries. Just give me a shout to let me know what you are in need of.

Textured Copper Jewelry workshop

Just spent the day with three fun, creative ladies making textured bracelets. I hadn't done this workshop in a while and they made it so easy and fun. They did a great job. We made earring to match but I forgot to take pictures of them.

Ceramic beads challenge

Back in July I came across a chance to win some beads and participate in a challenge to use the beads from Shawna Barnes of JSB Arts. When I got the beads a few weeks ago I knew this was going to be a real challenge for me. They were definitely different from the usual beads I incorporate into my work. But I was excited to see what I could do with them. And then life got busy and they got put to the side for a while. The thought of them tumbled around in my head for a while and then came the crunch. With just a few days left before it was to be done and posted I put them on my desk and tried adding different things to see what worked.  I would leave them and come back every once in a while to see how they looked and change it up, trying a different combination. I find this method works well for me. Don't rush it just see what happens in short spurts. Then when the time comes to sit down and really work on the piece it seems to come together without too much struggle.

When I was working on the pendant I thought I had a pretty good idea as to which side was the front. The idea was to have some wire wrapped around the small donut to add some dangles to, but when I was finishing and needed to do something with the wire on the back a swirl began to form so I decided to make swirls with all the wire ends. So now I'm not sure which side I like best. I guess it's a two sided pendant!

What do you think, which would you use for the front?

I'm afraid I forgot to take a picture of the beads before I started. I think you can figure out which are Shawna's. She makes really interesting ceramic beads and components. The ones she send me were very rustic natural looking beads. I added the copper components, seed beads, wiring and dangles.

Textured copper workshop.

I had great time teaching a fun group of ladies all about texturing copper this weekend and their bracelets and earrings turned out beautifully.

A little chain fun.

I started making these resin pendants last year. At first I just hung them on a copper chain but some of them just called out for a little something extra so I started playing around with different variations of making my own 'chain' to hang them on. Now each time I make more resin pendants I experiment with different ways to make my own chain for it.

This is a combination of metallic seed beads and Crystals.

This was a new variation this time around. The strand of seed beads is woven through the links of a brass chain.

Another combination of white seed beads and coppery crystals.

Here the copper chain is linked on the stringing wire every so often with the seed beads.

And another seed bead and crystal combination.

These do take extra time to make but I think it makes them more interesting and special. Do you have any favourite kinds of 'chains'?

Resin Jewelry workshop

I just had another great Resin Jewelry workshop this past weekend and as usual my students were inspiring. As you can see one did a very unique shape and a few of them used their own finding they brought along making their creations very personal. Don't forget these aren't quite finished. They need a few days to set before the background is trimmed and hung from a chain and ear hooks.

First copper texturing jewelry workshop.

I was so pleased with the results from my students at my first copper texturing jewelry workshop. It's always a bit of a challenge to do a workshop for the first time and these women made it easy and all went very well. They each made a bracelet and pair of earrings. It was fun and inspiring to see the different designs and textures that were created.

Resin Jewelry students work

Creating jewelry with resin is so much fun and teaching it is equally fun. I get the best students! It's so great to see what designs they create on their own. Last week I had a great group of ladies to make resin jewelry with. I had a wonderful time teaching them and was inspired by their creations. Here they are for you to see for yourself.

Resin workshop in the studio.

 This past Saturday I had 3 wonderfully creative students in my studio to learn how to make Resin wire formed jewelry. As always I was inspired by my students designs and creativity. Unfortunately I don't get to take photo's of the completely finished pieces since they need to cure for 3 days after pouring the resin, but I did get the almost finished works in progress photos.

Everyone was happy with their results and I was inspired by their designs.

To make this great teaching day even better, I had the Tin Man and his helper busy weeding my gardens and washing windows. It was like a dream day, teaching in my home studio while someone is doing my hardest chores.

Show preparations.

Urban Craft

I'm so excited to be part of this great show on June 9th. I went to check it out and do some shopping at their last show in March and the variety and creativity of vendors was awesome. So come on out to see me. I'm busy getting ready for it.

I've been busy with my resin and even have a few new designs.

I finished up these new designs the other day. How do you like the asymmetrical look? I always get a little chuckle when people tell me they aren't comfortable with things that are a little off. I have to admit I do feel that it takes a little more effort to do something asymmetrically. Sometimes I layer things a leave them for a while before I decide if they're okay or not.

And here are some I hope to get finished today. The two on the top are going to be bracelets, I just haven't decided if they are going to turn into leather cuffs or chain and bead bracelets. The lower gear one is going to be a necklace. I will probably just add some dangles and hang it on a chain but I can never be sure until it happens.
