Students work update

One of my favourite things about teaching is to see the finished creations of a workshop. But sometimes things don't always get completely finished or things don't always go exactly as planned in class. So when a student comes back to show me how their piece turned out after they went home and added their own things, it make me very happy.
Sharon's book

This piece was like that. Sharon wasn't happy with how her carving turned out for the front cover of her book so she decided to make a plain one and decide later what she would do with it. Well within a week she brought this lovely creation back to show me. She already had these flowers in her stash and just painted the centers to match the leather spine of the book. Isn't it just lovely! Thanks for sharing your finished book with me Sharon.

If you have something you've made in a workshop but it wasn't completely finished or you've added your own special touches to it I'd love to see how it turned out. Please send me a picture or come on by the studio for a visit and show me.

Grungy mirror workshop

I'm still catching up on some posts that are overdue. Today is about a workshop I did last week called Grungy mirror. It was the first time teaching it and I had a hard time deciding how much to teach because there are so many things you can do on it. I hope I didn't overwhelm my students with the variety of techniques we did. I think they did a wonderful job though and they were pleased with their creations.

The brain gears are working overtime after this one. I've started a few canvas' that may have a similar technique and design on it. I'm anxious to see how they turn out.

Metal embossed mirrors

Have I told you how much I love to teach?!! Well this past Saturday's workshop was no exception. I had two lovely ladies join me to create metal embossed mirrors. We had a great time and they did an amazing job with their creations.

As always it inspired me to work on one of my own again. I was thinking of working in a fall theme but am struggling with working with colours outside my norm. It will get done but for nor it's going to sit and stare at me for a bit. It seems to be one of those, walk away for a while projects.

Metal embossing workshop

Last week I participated in the Ottawa Catholic School boards annual Mosaic Art event. This is my second year teaching metal embossing to these teens from grade 7 to 12. It's wonderful to see the talent and variation in the creations of these students. Sorry for the glare on some of the photos, it's so hard to take good pics of metal without ideal lighting and my favourite camera! Enjoy and be inspired.

Word Canvas workshop

I had a wonderful group of creative ladies this past weekend  for my first workshop in the new studio. As you can see they made the Word Canvas. It's always interesting to see what words different people chose. There were so many wonderfully inspiring words flying around that you could feel the energy in the room as they created their canvas'. Most of the students went with words that moved them and just let it flow. Sharon's canvas was inspired by a recent vacation cruise in the Baltic Sea. She used the names of all the countries they visited as well as her cruise ticket. What a great way to remember a wonderful holiday.

I was so inspired by this group of women that I think I'll do another word canvas myself. I'm just having a hard time deciding on a theme. Should I do my usual kind of canvas with inspirational words or try for a new theme idea?!!
