Open Studio by appointment.

You're invited!

It's certainly been a different kind of year and we've all had to make changes and adjustment throughout it. I wasn't able to have my annual Open Studio this year so instead I've opened up the studio for some personal shopping by appointment. I haven't done any shows this year but I have still been creating so there is lots to choose from. I've also had a few new supply orders come in so the supply shop is stocked full of creative goodies.

If you'd like to come by to do some shopping just give me a call or e-mail to make an appointment. All Covid protocols are in place and I ask that you wear a mask while here. If you can't make it here or are not comfortable coming in I am doing porch pick up and some local deliveries. Just give me a shout to let me know what you are in need of.

I look forward to helping you out with your Christmas shopping. Here are a few pics of the studio and what's available .
Clare can't be here but she has been nice enough to drop off some soap so you can stock up.
All new supplies just in.

As with my usual Open House there is a supply discount table. This year everything on this table is 15% off. A great way to shop for the creative someone in your family.

Imagination is Boundless Workshop

I love the name of this workshop. It's actually the saying that is on the sample canvas but it is so appropriate for this workshop. The possibilities for it are endless.
I work very intuitively when I create so I don't usually think about the specific things I use and why I'm choosing them but when it's done it usually tells a story or teaches me something. For me it's about letting go and not overthinking it.
These students did a great job of not over thinking things and created something that is all their own.

Do you work intuitively or do you have a plan before you start?

Totem Grid Canvas workshop

I just notice that I didn't post my Totem Grid Canvas workshop from earlier this month. I hadn't taught it in a few year so there were a few requests for it. It's one of my all time favourite workshops to teach so I was happy to be doing it again. I love the techniques with texture and all the fun combination of objects people use to finish it off.

Teaching this workshop again has inspired me so much. I see more grid canvases in my future and possibly some interesting variations on this theme.

Black Dimensions workshop

Yesterday I enjoyed sharing another hot summer day creating in the studio with this great group of women. We spent our day creating the Black Dimensions canvas. Lot's of texture to explore and objects to choose and design with. This is such a fun canvas to do and teach. These ladies did a great job.

Into the Black Dimensions...

Today was the first time teaching the Black Dimensions workshop. Teaching a class the first time can sometimes be a little tricky. I don't always know how long things will take the group and what is the best order to do things in. So in a way the students are kind of my guinea pigs for getting things figured out. Today felt like that kind of day and my students were wonderfully patient with me and did an amazing job. We did a lot of different techniques and used a lot of different mediums to make these creations. Thank you ladies for a great day.

Amazing texture and colour

This past weekend saw another Excavating Layers workshop here in the studio. It is so wonderful to be able to take two full days to share this technique with creative kindred spirits. The creative energy was palpable the entire weekend. They were a great group of ladies. They did an amazing job on their pieces.

Textures in Excavating Layers

Excavating Layers is my newest workshop in the studio this year. I've been enjoying playing with a lot of texture pastes for a few years and have finally figured out how to incorporate that into a workshop. Texture paste, and making my own versions of texture paste is one of my favourite things to play with. There is just so many things you can do with it. In this workshop we mix a variety of things together to make our own texture.  The possibilities are endless, as you can see from my students pieces. I even had one student bring some gears and found object to make a layer with. A few of them are not sure if they are finished but they are pretty close to it.

First ATC drop-in day

Sunday was our first ATC drop-in and potluck lunch in the studio.

This year I decide to take a break from the ATC group I have been participating in monthly, for many years. It was time to make a little more room in my schedule for other things. But I have found myself missing it somewhat so I decided to make an ATC day in the studio. We had a great little group who spent the day make numerous ATC and had a yummy potluck lunch.

Here are some of the ATC's that were created during the day.

I think the day was a great success and hope to have more in the future. So if you enjoy a day just for making ATC's keep your eyes open for another one coming up some time this summer.

Postcards from Canada

With so many things going on for Canada's 150th anniversary it was interesting to find a creative outlet as well. The Fort Gallery in Fort Langley, BC decided to do a postcard call out for Canadian artist of all ages. They received postcards from across Canada and each one was displayed in their Gallery and sold with all the proceeds going to Canadian Feed the Children First Nation Nutrition Program.
A few artist in our ATC group decided to join in. These are the postcards that we send to the Gallery.

Imagination is Boundless workshop

In the last year or two I have been exploring the creation of dimensional canvases. I often call them altered art because so many thing on them are altered from their original purpose. Almost nothing is sacred and cannot be used on a piece of altered art. So now I enjoy teaching my process of creating these canvases to others.
Yesterday I was in the company of 3 wonderfully creative ladies while teaching them the Imagination is Boundless canvas workshop. Just see what a wonderful job they did.

Now I'm off to finish the canvas I started during the workshop and maybe start a few more projects floating around in my head. Wish me luck!
