Time for an update.

Hello dear artsy friends.

I can't believe I haven't posted here since last May. How are you doing? Are you keeping creative? Through all the uncertain times of the last few years I have tried to keep creating but I haven't been as good at keeping in touch through social media. No promises but I hope to make that better this year. I thought I would start here by sharing a few of my favourite things that I made last year.

Nature collages.
These little collage works are on 4" x 4" wood gallery canvases.

I believe that I have finally discovered white space in my art. That makes it sound like it is something that needs to be there which it isn't. It was just something that I was becoming aware of seeing but not able to do. Sometimes with the best intentions of leaving some white space I would end up filling up the whole area with collage and colour. These little canvases are one of my favourite projects I have done while working on finding white space. With this discovery I have found a calmness both while creating them and in the finished pieces.

Summer Haze

I have found myself using softer colours in the last year. Sometimes it is the colours I choose or the addition of white gesso that creates this effect. This one is on a 10" x 10" wood gallery canvas. It has many layers of collage, paints and mark making on it.

Winter escape ornaments.

In November and December I found myself falling into a creative white hole. These dimensional ornaments on wood slices and wood snowflakes were a wonderful distracts at a busy time of year.

So what have you been up to? Please share your creative endeavors in the comments. I'd love to see them.

Happy Creating!

Keeping the creative momentum.

Oh my, time seems to have slipped through my fingers again and now it's almost the end of August and I haven't posted here since June. How does that happen even in this strange time of isolation when I have no classes or creative studio and so much time at home on my own. However it happens I am sorry for not post more here. I won't promise that I will do more but I will do my best to do better. I have the best of intentions and so many ideas to share with you. Well we will see...

The theme for July on Dragonfly Dreamers monthly exploration group was Cards. I had intended to do many different kind of cards but I ended up just doing some affirmation cards and ATC's. They were all done with layers of collage, paints and pens. I start off by doing a full sheet of collage and painting and then I cut them to the size I want before finishing them of with some mark making and doodling the back with an affirmation or quote.

These ATC's all got traded with people from the group.

These affirmation cards are 4.5"x3". I think of the left side as the front and the right side as the back but both are finished pieces on their own. I have quite a collection of these cards now and like to shuffle through them and choose one each day for a daily affirmation.

I hope you are keeping creating.

Card making time.

It's that time of year again! Have you starting your Christmas cards yet? Do you make your own cards? Do you even send out cards any more?
Well here in the studio we've been making cards like crazy. My Creative Studio Tuesday evening group has been busy with Christmas creating since the beginning of the month. This past Saturday was the Christmas Cards workshop. As with most of the workshops, once they learned the basic techniques they have an infinite number of ways to go with their cards. Just take a look at the wonderful variety they created.

I will be here with friend selling our creative wares from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Come on out for a coffee and some lovely company. See you soon.

More fun with pours

Yesterday was the second workshop for the Rings and balloons acrylic pours. It was so much fun that I had a hard time stopping. Well once I have everything out for it I might as well keep playing and experimenting right?!!
You can see by my students result what a great group they were and an inspiration to keep playing.

First Acrylic pour workshop of the year.

Doing an acrylic pour workshop this past weekend was so much fun after having taken a small break from workshops over the winter. These two friends were excited to try out dirty pours and did a great job.

Winter entertainment.

Not our usual small birds at the feeder this winter!

How is your winter going? Here in the studio winter means hibernating a little and catching up after a busy fall. A few people have been asking me about workshops and I keep saying they are coming soon and really they are! Winter also means some playtime and trying out new things so you will have some new workshops to choose from. There will still be some old favourites and if there is something you're waiting to do let me know so I can add it to the schedule.

If you've been to the studio you may have seen our local turkeys  tour through the yard. With all the snow this winter they have also become a regular at the bird feeders or should I say under the feeders. They have been our entertainment for the winter and it's neat to see them up close.

Feather anyone?

Not the prettiest face!

As entertaining as they are I am glad it's March and spring is just around the corner.

Acrylic Pour workshop

I think I may have become addicted to acrylic pouring. It's just too much fun. And it's great to be able to teach and do it with a group of like minded creative women.
Yesterday's class was a blast and I must of kept playing for over and hour after they left. It's just so hard to stop. Just look at the fun pours they did. Some of these are going to be turned into books.

First ATC drop-in day

Sunday was our first ATC drop-in and potluck lunch in the studio.

This year I decide to take a break from the ATC group I have been participating in monthly, for many years. It was time to make a little more room in my schedule for other things. But I have found myself missing it somewhat so I decided to make an ATC day in the studio. We had a great little group who spent the day make numerous ATC and had a yummy potluck lunch.

Here are some of the ATC's that were created during the day.

I think the day was a great success and hope to have more in the future. So if you enjoy a day just for making ATC's keep your eyes open for another one coming up some time this summer.

More Acrylic Pours

I have now started to warn people when they come for an Acrylic Pour workshop, that it is addictive. Try it, I bet you can't do just one. Luckily in an afternoon class we have time to do two pours. They are too much fun!!
Here are the result from a workshop a few days ago. There were some great colour combos used by these students.
