White inspiration

When I was asked to make a wedding card last week the first thing that came to mind was white. I've been toying with the idea of working with white for some time now. Not necessarily for a card but this was a great start to collect together my favourite white papers. As you can see, for me whites are more on the cream side. Like so much of what I do it's all about the texture. So many of the papers I pulled out have a lot of texture to them, some that you can feel and others that just appear to have texture.

Hearts seemed a natural thing to use for a wedding. These heart were die cut from book text paper and then I added texture by embossing them. To make the embossing pop more of course I used my distress inks and applicator to swipe over the raised image and darken the edges.

This Celtic knot is one of my favourite stamps and I think it's appropriate for a wedding too. To add texture to these I used gold embossing power. I guess I didn't stay true to my white monochromatic idea but it's a start in that direction for some bigger project to come hopefully. I'm seeing a 6"x6" or 8"x8" cradle board canvas with grid squares, with lots of layers, buttons...oh where is my idea journal when I need it!

What's your favourit colours or themes for wedding projects?

Welcome to my new studio...

I've finally officially moved into the new studio. Although I still have more things to organize and move into the studio I had my Open House last weekend and have been creating in my new space for a few weeks. It's so exciting and inspiring to be in this space. The Tin man has been helping a lot getting it set up, hanging things on the wall and not even questioning me when I say I want boxes hung on the wall! I know I'm lucky to have him and appreciate him very much.

So come in and I'll give you a little tour of how things are looking so far.

Here is my gears table finally finished. It's a little hard to tell but this is a large table. It's 4'x8'. I had some struggles getting this done. It actually took 2 tries as the first time things just weren't going as planned. But as usual when these things happen the end result turns out much better than originally planned.
I wanted somewhere to store jars and things that wasn't too deep so these shelves are old boxes and a drawer on the top. I haven't decided yet what's going on the shutters, we just decided they would look good there.
A quite warm spot in the sun to take a break, have a tea and read a good book.
 My jewelry display corner.
The jewelry creating corner. It still need some major organization here. I haven't figured out the best way to store my tools for easy access.
This is where I'll be teaching workshops. The shelves haven't been organized yet but everything in time.
This is my purge table of things for sale. Do you need anything? Come on over and have a look!

I hope you enjoyed the tour. I'd love to hear your thought on the new studio and any suggestions for more organizing. One can never be too organized!.

Studio Open House

It's time! It's time!
Dragonfly Dreamers Open House
Sat. Sept. 22, 2012
1:00pm-4:00pm
3557 Munster Rd.

Yes I'm finally ready to reveal my new studio or at least I will be by Saturday. During the Open House you can do a make and take and enter your name in a draw for a chance to win one of three prizes. All my workshop pieces will be on display for sign up. You can view more details about the workshops here. While moving the studio upstairs I came across lots of things that I don't really need any more so I'll be having a large sale table as well.

The above photo is a little corner by the window where you can sit and have a tea or coffee while you take in the whole studio view.
Here are the lights that I finally decided on and had installed. They aren't the prettiest put I just love the light that fills the room when they're on.

And here is a sneak peek at my newly painted work table. It seems to me each time I have some large move, I get an urge to paint a piece of furniture, usually at the last moment. Well I actually started this table a few months ago but things didn't go as planned, as a few of you may have seen if you follow me on facebook, so I got back at it last week and this time it worked out and I'm very pleased with it.

I hope these few peeks have enticed you to come and see my new studio on Saturday. I'll have the tea and coffee waiting for you!

Hope to see you soon.
